Alien
Based on the popular sci-fi film, it follows the crew of the commercial space tug Nostromo, who after coming across a mysterious derelict spaceship on an undiscovered moon, find themselves up against an aggressive and deadly extraterrestrial set loose aboard their ship.
My design concept stemmed from the idea of fear. Not a personal fear, but a general one. We as a society spend much time thinking, speaking, and writing about Death. Different cultures visualize Death in a host of forms. Funnily enough when I picture Death, I picture nothing. No particular form or shape, an absence really.
In trying to connect that absence of form with something, I one day thought of jellyfish. An amorphous form created by translucent matter that drifts through our oceans. And yet, one of the deadliest animals on the planet. Lethal enough, it would only take seconds. Drawing inspiration from that creature and other creatures of the deep, I went to work.
